Seminary Computer Lab
Last Fall I co-taught a computer class in our seminary, Ministry Training Institute (MTI), with Eric Solorio, a Mexican from the church that I attend in Ensenada. Next Fall I will be teaching with him again. I was impressed with how good of a job he did teaching.
The course material ranges from simple tasks, such as how to use a mouse, typing skills, etc. to more advanced topics, such as how to create a Power Point presentation that tells a story. Creating materials for the students is a challenge because the students come with different skills in computers. Some students come already having experience with computers, while others have never even seen a computer. Each student has to be taught independently of the others because each student is at a different skill level. Please pray that the Lord would give us wisdom how to do this effectively. Please pray for us that the Lord would continue to use what we teach to give the students a practical skill they need in the mission fields the Lord will take them to.
Communications
One of the challenges that we currently face in the ministry is lack of communications at our camp facility. At one time we had telephone access through a fixed cell phone system. Unfortunately, that service became unavailable due to damage to the cell phone provider’s cell tower that serviced our area because of a fire. We have our Internet access through a satellite system. Unfortunately, our attempts to use VOIP phones through the satellite Internet has not worked out so well. This creates a problem for us. We are in ministry to minister to the people of Mexico. However, without a reliable communications system in place, we are unable to contact the very people we would like to minister to and with. This is a problem that is directly impacting our ability to do what God has called us to do.
This is a challenge that I am determined to meet. I believe that the Lord will provide a solution. We are now investigating the possibility of installing an antenna system that will bring our Internet access from our Ensenada office to the camp, about 12 miles away. Using that Internet system will allow us to use VOIP phones in the camp. The same antenna system can also be used to bring in our landline from the Ensenada office for local phone access. There are a lot of steps that have to succeed to make this work. One of these is to either purchase the hilltop above our camp or to receive permission to use it, because that is where we would need to install the antenna. The other is the selection of the right equipment and raising funds to purchase the equipment and a solar system to power it. Please pray that the Lord would open the doors that need to be open for this to become a reality.
Prayer Request
I have been dealing with a case of chronic prostatitis (If you don’t know what this is, it is an infection.). It is an ongoing treatment that seems to be working very slowly (which is typical for a chronic case like this). Unfortunately, this is getting difficult to pay for because the medicine is expensive and requires regular lab work to monitor progress. Agua Viva Ministries paid for health insurance coverage. This coverage does not come out of my support—this is a real blessing from the ministry, for which I am very grateful. However, the condition I have is a pre-existing condition because the medical coverage began last December, and I had the condition before that. Therefore, this treatment comes out of my own pocket. I believe that the Lord can heal me. He may decide to do that. Or, He may choose to use this condition to teach me what He would like to teach me—not the least of which is to depend on Him. Please pray for my health and also pray that He would use this to make me more like Him.
Thank You!
Thank you for your prayers! The truth is, prayer is the greatest gift we can give to someone. Prayer is not what we offer when we “have nothing else to give”. Prayer is what we offer because it is the best we have to give. When you pray for me you are involved in a spiritual battle for Mexico. Thank you!
